Hi, we are two brothers, Jake and Ethan Bowden, who started Reboot Tech with a passion for both the environment and for helping underserved kids. Jake currently attends Columbia University and Ethan is a senior at The Albany Academies. We have always loved working together on computers and decided to start this organization when we realized first, how many kids don’t have access to computers, and second, how many computers are wasted in landfills every year. So, one year over our winter break, we started rebuilding and upgrading old computers from our dad’s office. We soon realized that with a little work, we could make them as good as new. With new solid state drives and updated operating systems, we hope to distribute as many refurbished computers as we can to underserved kids in the Albany, NY area.
The first step of the reburishment process is to remove and destroy the original hard drives from the donated computers through a secure shredding process.
As a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, we load a new Windows Professional operating system onto each computer, along with Microsoft Office Suites, anti-virus software, and various educational programs. We attach Microsoft Certificates of Authenticity labels to each.
Finally, we run a complete hardware diagnostics and check over all components to make sure everything is functioning properly before distribution.
